Statue of Jesus Christ
near the entrance of the cemetery

When you enter the cemetery using the main entrance, you see just in front of you, a little bit to the left, a small, rolling hill. When you circle this for a quarter to the right, you arrive at a wide path, lined with several graves of prominent people, which leads to this statue of our saviour, building something like an entrance to a small historical graveyard - the   'Old Hamburgian Memorial-Cemetery'.

This statue of Jesus Christ was created about 1904 by the sculptor Xaver Arnold. The design was substantial made by the founder of the cemetery, Wilhelm Cordes (11.3.1840-31.8.1917). The pedestal is decorated with kissing angel-heads as well as with roses and anemones. In front of the pedestal you can find a bronze plate showing the inscription :

" By this everyone may recognize, that you are My disciples,
that you have love among one another. "
